With the implementation of National Education Policy Jammu Kashmir Union Territory adminstration is all set to shift examination of primary to higher secondary exams from November to March session.
The move follows the government’s decision to simultaneously implement the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020 and the Uniform Academic Calendar in the Higher Education Department (HED) starting with the current academic session.
Reports suggest that adminstration is about to take final call in less than two weeks.
One of the report published in local news wire said that the reason behind the move, the officials said, “Despite taking their Class 10th or Class 12th exams in November, students who want to enroll in professional courses out of UT have to wait until the new academic term as those universities starts their session in July.
Awami Moazin tried to take up issue with few students and parents to know about the same.
Rehabta, 11th class medical student studying in Girls Higher Secondary School said ” shifting exams from November to March session is giving us less time in preparation for National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET). However, November session was giving us around six months for NEET preparation.
Another student Iqra Yaseen, from the same secondary school said, ” before the NEP-2020 other states of country had already march session and new acemedic session in College and Universities would start from July session. Students of Kashmir had to wait for more than six months in order to get admission outside Valley but now the decision will match the academic session with rest of the country.
Muzafar Ahmad Khan , a parent from Shopian district said to Awami Moazin that the March session will give students enough time for acamedic exams but less for competitive exams conducted on national levels.
“Taking Geographic conditions into conserdation november session was suitable to be the end of academic session in Kashmir valley. Since winters naturally keep the schools off. March, April, May, and June were best possible atmosphere for academic classes and then followed by summer vacations but now these months will get involved in exams and other things.” said, a parent from Pulwama who wish not to be named.
As per reports officials further added the move will bring the academic session in line with the schools across.”
It was further revealed that the March to March session proposal is almost through and needs a formal order only.
“All preparations in this regard have been completed, and we are expecting the examinations for the 10th and 12th to be held in March this session,” a senior official of SED said, adding that after the 10th and 12th examinations, other lower class exams will be held gradually in march session.
