The sketches drawn by a class 9 speech and hearing impaired student speak volumes for him.
16- year old Shahid Ali Dar, a resident of Rahmoo village of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district draws what his eyes see and heart accepts.
“He always remains absorbed in his drawings and communicates with the world around him through his sketches “, says his mother Aisha Banoo.
Dar was born deaf and mute and at the age of six, he began drawing sketches, which took aback every one in his family.
“He mostly sketches with pencils as we are unable to get him color crayons due to our financial constraints, ” said Banoo
Last year, on the eve of International Day of Disabled Persons, State Council of Educational Research and Training ( SCERT), Srinagar organised a drawing competition and Dar bagged the first position.
“The disability has never held him back from continuing his studies and carrying his passion of drawing forward”, said Sajad Ahmad , cousin of the Dar.
Ahmad said that he would draw sketches, more often than not,on ground when he was as young as 7 .
Dar is close to his sister and mostly communicates with her. She the only person in their family who understands her brother’s sign language.
“It is a gift from God to him and apart from studies. We request district administration to assist him in taking his art to new heights,” said Dar’s uncle, Ghulam Mohammad.
